Microsoft Windows 7: "Gripes My Ass" Series

7. February 2010 09:41

Ok, this really gripes my ass.  In the "brilliant" minds over at Microsoft, they have decided to add this new "feature" to the way users are allowed to run programs.  Ok so here's the set-up.  My account type is Computer Administrator.  But in order to run certain programs, I have to "elevate" my permission status to "administrator."  For example, I downloaded an update for my LightScribe service.  Groovy.  If I just click the file.  Windows 7 informs me that I don't have sufficient privileges to run the application.  Ok, so the new Windows 7 paradigm requires an extra couple of steps in order to run my application.  Instead of just double-clicking the program, you now have to right-click, and then from the context menu, select "Run as Administrator."  Ok, that's just STUPID.  Microsoft can give me all the "improved security" bs propaganda they want, that's just STUPID.  I'M AN EFFING ADMINISTRATOR FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

Ok, so I take the extra steps to run my LightScribe update.  I right-click the file, search through the context menu and find "Run as Administrator" (usually near the top) and click.  Now after taking the extra steps, I get ANOTHER EFFING modal popup that ask me AGAIN if I want to run the program.  I go through the bullshit right-click steps only to have to tell Windows 7 AGAIN that I want to run the EFFING program.  OMFG.  Seriously?  Ok, calm down, deep rythmic breathing, pulse rate slowing... click "Yes."  And we're off!  Finally... ok here we go, Lightscribe update is running...

Progress bar at 15%... progress bar at 25%... progress bar at 30%... What the hell is THAT???  A popup at the top of my screen... I hope its gonna tell me I have won the lottery?!?!  NOOOOO!  You EFFING PIECE OF SHIT!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?! $%@#!!&$!!!*@*@#!!! !@!@#@

I think for all its "wealth" and "talent" that maybe Microsoft should take a few days and study "usability."  Maybe take a road trip down to Apple, or even just open a copy of Linux.  Not NEARLY as big of a turd as VISTA, but only cause of the added Windows 7 lipstick.

"You know how you survive?  You make people need you, and then once they do, they have no where else to go." -Bill Gates(Pirates of silicon Valley).

Guess what Microsoft... you may be needed by the masses, but trust me when I say that it is ONLY because Apple charges too much money.  If Apple came off of their systems by a few hundred dollars, or when Linux becomes appealing to the "crowd"... you could find yourselves in a shit pot of trouble.
